Discover the top 50 most visited sites in the world according to the study by Forbes Magazine. The data were used to compile this index are mostly tourist offices.

At the sight of this classification several interesting facts emerge:
- US sites attract more visitors
- Mickey has conquered the world
- Amusement parks win a big success
- Paris is the cultural capital of the world
- Tourists love museums

Some sites are not included in this ranking but still attract many visitors. These attractions can be mentioned the Prado Museum in Madrid with 2 million visitors, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence with 1.6 million entries or the archaeological site of Angkor in Cambodia, which receives 1.5 million tourists per year.

In this ranking places of pilgrimage as Mecca, Benares or the Sensoji Temple in Tokyo (which receives 30 million pilgrims per year) were excluded because they are not necessarily visited on holidays.

By analyzing this ranking we can see some interesting details about the kind of attractions of interest to tourists.

The 50 most visited sites in the world attracted 561 million visitors, according to figures provided by the tourism industry.

This is the United States that have the most sites listed in this top 50 with 19 places to visit. But nearly half of these sites are amusement parks. These 19 sites attracted 32.9% of all tourists accounted for the overall ranking.

France has 6 sites listed in this hit parade favorite of tourists and attracted only 8.2% of the 561 million visitors (45.8 million for the six French sites classified). However, all six sites listed are located in Paris and the Paris region.

Also note that France has two sites listed in the top 10 most visited places with Notre Dame de Paris and Disneyland Paris, which are respectively the ninth and 10th in the standings.

Mickey alone is better than Disneyland France since the four listed in the rankings has attracted 49.4 million tourists in the Top 50, or 8.8%.

In general the parks really are popular, whether in the United States, Europe or Asia as 136.7 million people visited the 15 sites of entertainment that account this classification, 24, 4% of the 561 million visitors.

Culture is not lost however, as 8.2% of tourists entered one of 10 museums listed (counting the Vatican Museums) in the top 50.
